Locally our focus is on supporting compassionate civic and humanitarian activities that create a Culture of Peace. We often table at events, walk in parades, and
demonstrate at public rallies, protests & campaigns in support of Human Rights. We
support actions that our members embrace.
JOIN SPOKANE VETERANS FOR PEACE
Only way to join VFP is to send your DD214 to National VFP along with $40.00/year.
Associate members can join for $25.00/year. Local chapter dues are voluntary 10.00/year.
We meet every second Wednesday at 6:45 PM in the Saranac Building Learning Studio to share information and plan our Peace work. It’s up to us to leverage the Peace Vets Voice!
LEVERAGING THE PEACE VETS VOICE
Yes, it sounds like a theme song lyric, but it’s true that the anti war/militarism platform and the pro-Peace action narrative put Peace Vets in a unique position as advocates for building communities and common care. How to leverage that voice, with strategies and tactics that work over time is a priority. VFP is now an International Network with chapters in Viet Nam, the UK, Mexico, Okinawa, &
Ireland. Our Peace Ship, the Golden Rule, will soon embark on a 3,000 mile journey
bringing a “no nukes” message to Hawaii, the Marshall Islands, Okinawa, South Korea, and others. There are multiple working groups on issues, like Agent Orange & Unexploded Ordinance. VFP holds advisory NGO status at the U.N.

Spokane VFP Chapter President’s Welcome
On behalf of Chapter #35, I urge you to make plans to join us this August in the
Inland Northwest. Like your community, Spokane is under attack by greed, militarism & tortured climate, but we thrive on a legacy of actvism from the
Wobblies, a determined social jus6ce community, & warm summer days with
refreshingly cool nights in a thrilling natural settng.
Just because we’re saving the world, there’s no reason not to have a good time.

DEVELOPING A PERSONAL PEACE PRACTICE
What Can I Do For Peace?
Good ques6on! Start with
yourself. If you change,
others may change as well
(but there’s no guarantee.)
Consider working in the
physical, mental, emotional
and spiritual realms. Daily.
*Take care of your body by proper nutri6on and daily exercise.
*Remain mentally alert by reading and thinking and expressing your ideas.
*Emotional stability can be maintained by grounding techniques and by allowing
proper outlets for feelings. Find like-minded friends.
*Devote some time to relationships with ideas beyond the physical plane.
Connecting with Nature is a good way to do this.
Developing a discipline and daily routine can help focus on what is needed and
provide support for your actions for PEACE.
SACRED LANDS & SACRED LIVES
We all live on sacred land. It is only by recognizing, realizing and understanding
this that we can sanctify our actions on this land. This is an important theme of any
PEACE convention where we come together to work for the good of all society.
When we work for the care and sustainability of our Sacred Land, our lives
become Sacred as well. It is via Conscious Awareness that we offer our work for a
Sustainable Spokane. Civil society depends upon a very important construction:
< we all care for all >
Spokane VFP continues our work for peace with your assistance. Our focus is to
support our members and friends as their projects manifest. Please find out
about and support our allied oganizations!
LEVERAGING VETERANS VOICES FOR PEACE
is an important theme of this annual National Convention. We have seen militarization of our society, the rise of white nationalism, fear mongering
against immigrants & refugees. We see U.S. administrations scoff at International Laws, Treaties, Conventions, and U.N. Declarations. We’ve seen funding cuts to essential programs and institutions that safeguard our democracy & underpin our entire society. Peace Veterans can speak with first hand knowledge ofwaste & destruction brought about by military actions around the world. A t-shirt from
World Beyond War so states: “The first casualty of war is Truth; the rest are mostly
civilians.” That means women & children. “Genocide by dislocation” is a primary cause of the shortened & hazardous lives of refugees in wartime. Now’s a good time to Leverage the Peace Vets Voice!

Important Report Back Rallys supporting the Poor People’s Campaign brought VFP speakers to the Gathering Place next to City Hall. Our tables appeared at Earth Day &
